A public space for a new park. North London
The Old Crouch End Station is a contemporary public space by James Innes Design that meets the needs of people and nature. Set within the abandoned train station at Crouch End, North London, it combines heritage, community, and nature together into a unique green space that speaks to its history and landscape.
Bespoke to the client. Delivering the exceptional.
The Design Inspiration
The design is entirely inspired by the railway. The master schematic takes lines of sight from the start of the line at Alexandra Palace to the central London rail termini. The Old Station design is based off the dynamic geometry of the technical drawings of railway engines. The spaces capture, celebrate, and repurpose the remnant infrastructure, creating a contemporary space rooted in the palimpsest of its place.
The Planting
The design’s planting and form is entirely inspired by the indigenous and naturalised plants on site. The design develops a rich under-canopy for more wild forested areas, and using a range of matrix planting blocks that use naturalised species will add to the biodiversity while retaining the woodland charm of the site.
